Opera Mini 3.0Norwegian Opera Software ASA, which has developed the well known Opera browser, has come out with a new version of its browser for mobile phones, Opera Mini 3.0. The company said the new browser can be used in a mobile phone for practically all browsing functions, including uploading pictures and video clips and accessing emails as well undertaking online transactions.

The browser is optimized to cut down on the size of data transferred to the mobile phone, which has been possible through server-side data compression process. This compression enables the processing of web pages on even basic phones and brings down the costs involved in data transfer for subscribers with limited plans.

It also offers secure connections, ensuring safe transactions. It is now available for download from the company’s website and is compatible with almost all mobile phones that support web browsing.

The company said one of the highlighting features of the browser is its capability to upload pictures. Pictures taken using a camera phone can be instantly uploaded to community networking sites like MySpace using the browser. It also sports a “content folding” facility, with which the user can collapse or expand the list of links, thereby managing the real estate on the screen. It is also compatible for RSS news feeds, allowing the user to read the feeds in the browser.

Opera already has its Opera Mini for mobile phones and the company said some eight million people are using it to surf the web. Opera’s chief executive officer Jon von Tetzchner said in a statement Opera Mini allows millions of people to use their mobile phones to access the same web sites they do from their desktop. He said the company is excited to improve the functionalities of the browser.
